Ashely Graham has made a name for herself in the modeling industry by breaking the stigma that surrounds plus-sized modeling and fighting back against body shamers.
She is revered as a hero amongst women for her bold and outspoken approach to beauty and acceptance as well as her perseverance through years of being outcast in the fashion world.
Graham recently revealed that her battle for fair treatment and acceptance from others didn’t start when she began modeling, but in fact as a young child when she was diagnosed with both dyslexia and ADD.
While she was able to learn valuable skills to manage her diagnoses, she says that she still struggles with confidence in front of the camera. Part of managing her anxiety when it comes to her dyslexia is self-affirming mantras that she recites.
She is fearless, passionate, beautiful, and an ally to all. Of beauty, confidence, and encouraging others she says, “I’m not here to make you feel ‘beautiful,’ whatever that means,” Graham continued. “I’m here to make you understand that true beauty is being OK with who you are. Being OK with who you are is a revolutionary act. And making someone else feel OK with who they are? That’s downright heroic.”
Can we get a slow clap for Ms. Graham?
