8 Things That Can Cause Annoying Breast Pain

Breast pain can be annoying if not frightening or scary. If sometimes, you are feeling breast sore, it is best to know what the cause is and why you are suffering such pain and if there is a way to avoid it. The medical name for breast pain is mastalgia. It is more common during periods of hormone fluctuations, such as PMS, pregnancy, or menopause.

These stages lead to an imbalance of progesterone and estrogen levels. Breast pain and tenderness varies depending on the individual; it can be a dull ache or a sharp pain in one or both breasts. Although breast pain and tenderness are normal occurrences, many women will want to know why they happen.

Over Stressed

Severe stress can be behind that mysterious breast pain. Emotional stress can create hormonal imbalance which may lead to cyclic breast pain, even when you’re not on your period. Breast pain can increase or change its pattern with the hormone changes that happen during times of stress and may affect both breasts equally.

Certain Medications

Breast infections are most common among women who are breastfeeding. These can form within the tissue of the breast. It also happens when breast feeding and the milk gets backed up in the milk duct, causing a buildup of bacteria. Women who aren't breastfeedingcan still get breast infections, though they are much less common. In these cases, the infection is often traced back to some sort of damage to the nipple, including piercing.

Bras cause breast pain, especially when you are wearing a wrong fitted bra. Underwire pushing into the tissue of your breast in a really uncomfortable way, can cause pain in your breast. If you want to avoid this, wear a less restrictive bra to avoid any pain in your breast.

Your Period

Breast pain can be caused by the monthly hormonal shifts. Some women are more sensitive to these changes than others, while others only experience it randomly or never. It usually arrives between 7-10 days before your period, but the timing may vary from person to person. It may feel almost like your breast are swollen and will go away once your period arrives.

You’re Exercising too hard

When doing extraneous exercises breast may hurt when you do not have proper support of the weight of the breast. The muscles that support your breast weight while you are doing jumping jacks.  The pectoralis muscles, which sit below your breasts. These are the ones getting a workout when you do, say, bench presses. If these are sore, give 'em the usual treatment: rest, ice, and your OTC pain med of choice.

A Nerve Issue

Pain from a pinched nerve in your neck, for instance, can radiate down into your shoulders and arms. And a condition like fibromyalgia can cause dull aches pretty much everywhere. if all you have is pain in your breast, your nerves probably aren’t to blame. But if you're concerned that something like this may be going on, definitely talk to your doctor. You may need imaging or to have special tests that measure the signals coming from your nerves.

A Cyst

Breast cysts are common and don’t always cause pain. But when they do, it’s because they’re pulling and pushing on the tissue that’s already there. They can cause cyclic or non-cyclic pain. So you may notice them coming and going with your period, but that’s not a sure sign. If you are worried about the lump, it is best to consult your doctor.
